Food Choices…

Day two of my committment to eliminate sugar from my system.  Your food choices impact the way you feel and function.  This morning I am enjoying tuna salad for breakfast.

Yes…tuna!  Now why am I eating tuna for breakfast?  Short answer…it’s tasty, compact, and it fits into my busy routine.  This is what Starkist said about tuna:

Tuna is an excellent source of protein and much lower in fat, saturated fat and cholesterol than many other protein choices. Tuna also has essential vitamins and minerals such as Niacin, Vitamin B12 and Selenium. The majority of fat in tuna comes from Omega-3 fatty acids that are important in reducing the risk of heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends that Americans eat 2 servings of fatty fish, like tuna, a week. Many studies have found that people who eat fish 2 or more times a week have lower rates of heart disease.

I roasted a turkey breast last night so I have lunch for today as well.  My father’s illness has sparked me to take better care of myself.  I know how I felt when I followed the low carb lifestyle.  It was wonderful and really easy to follow once you get used to the way of life.  I finally figured out how to get what I need from menus and to make people back down that tell you what you “need” to eat…I tell them I’m diabetic.  Not too far from the truth because every time I start picking up massive amounts of weight I become pre-diabetic.  Both my parents suffer from diabetes, my grandparents suffered from diabetes, I have heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer in the family line.  I think giving up some bread, flour, sugar, and pasta is worth the extra time I may be giving myself on this Rock.

So…checking out my calendar and I see that my birthday is looming again.  I will be 45 in July.  It may seem like a long time but it passes quickly.  I JUST got here (Alaska) in July and I look up it is already January.  Wow.  So LONG-TERM goal lose 45 pounds or close to it by the time I am 45.

  3. 28.37 weeks
  4. equals 1.58 pounds per week to hit my goal.

When broken down that way 45 pounds does not seem to be impossible.  Small goals are the key!  That is what I did before and it worked like a charm!

My mini goal for this week will be eating clean, starting exercise (I ordered Billy Blanks S.O.S*Sweat Off the Sizes*) and make the 1.5 pound goal.  I know that this is the beginning and the weight will fall off AT FIRST but it does slow down and stall on occasion.  I know this is doable.  I would love to see what I look like in the 120s.  My goal weight will probably change once my body settles.  It seems to like 140…but still gonna try.  Go hard or go home I say!

I will also let you guys know how the Billy DVD goes…I will also incorporate other routines to keep the boredom away.

I’m committed to this…haven’t felt like this in a long time.  Gonna make sure I stay healthy and not have to put my family through ANY illness if I can help it.

PS…Just realized I will HAVE to weigh myself! Filth! Flarn! Filth! I hate the damned scale…it never tells me anything good.  But it is a good measurement of progress… PHEH!
