Yep…do something for 21 days straight and it will become a habit. Cool huh? 🙂

I’m at the end of the Whole 30 plan. I do feel better, but I believe I needed to really have my mind focused on doing this one completely. I stayed on it for the most part. I’m going to look into doing the 21 Day Sugar Detox (from Paleo Food List). Here is the YouTube video they have on their website:

Interesting, right?  Here is the link to The 21 Day Sugar Detox.  On the page there is a PDF download available.  I’m thinking about reading that too. Knowledge is power for me.  Unless I know exactly what I am supposed to be doing on a plan I tend to just lose interest and stop.  Since my daughter’s363 birthday is coming up in three days (21 years old! THE BABY is going to be 21…21 seems to be theme for me) I’m going to do the 21 day Sugar Detox and the Billy Blanks 21 day challenge (from the olden days…Bill wore tons of spandex and a jockstrap…ew) along with Body Pump.  The only thing I will lose is fat.  I believe we all have at least an hour a day to devote to exercise.  I actually have time now since I gave up cable and started Netflix, HuluPlus, and other Internet streaming media.  I am saving a crapload of money and I am finding that I can make time to do the things that I have been putting off. 🙂

21 days to make a habit?  I don’t mind this becoming a habit….

Top Knot…Tuna…B12 (NOT the shots)…Feeling Good!

LOOKA!! I have a bona fide top knot and it is all my hair!! I am so happy that my hair is getting healthier everyday. I used to have my hair all the way to the middle of my back until one day the Good Idea Fairy came by and decided that I should put a cheap (discontinued…that is why it was so cheap) keratin treatment in my head. Results from that was major breakage (chemical haircut) and fried hair. I am lucky it was noticed 30 seconds into application that my hair was disintegrating and it was washed out. 30 seconds too late…my head looked terrible. I have been taking Biotin and another plethora of vitamins for about 6 months and now my hair is pretty much happy again. No fake hair here! I just wish it could look like the ones showed in the magazines. I believe another 6 months of biotin and woman’s vitamins (menopausal formula…sad but necessary now) will have my mane back to where it was before!

I have been on a tuna kick for almost three weeks now. This is what I am gonna nosh on during the day while I am at work. Since I have been staying away from the sugar (for the most part! this weekend was sugar free…being sick and all) in my diet the fruits taste like candy to me.  The best are the tuna creations packets.  I can eat those with a fork (no seasoning necessary) and it does fill you up.  On my poor days I partake in the Great Value brand of tuna (water packed…the oil packed makes me want to hurl) with some Dijon mustard and a little salt and pepper. NOM!  If there is a will there is a way. You can eat Paleo on a budget.

Last Thursday I was looking around on the Internet in vain trying to find a place that offered B12 shots.  I remember my Mother getting the shots twice a week for weight loss back in the day.  I also remember her taking Apple Cider Vinegar (WHY??…OH 500 calorie meal plan too) by the spoonful while she was getting the shots.  I ALMOST got sucked into the B12 shot myth.  ALMOST.  Since I am poorer these days (I am seriously working on keeping a budget) I decided to do some research on the B12 shots.  I found a place here that offered 12 shots for $100.00.  It sounded like a deal to me so I made an appointment.  I kept having this nagging feeling that I was just going to be wasting my money. So I researched.  I am glad I did.  The first thing that made my antenna go up was the fact that the office was also trying to sell me HCG shots and diet .  She added that the B12 shots were also included.  Come on down and have a consult and the total package was 240.00 for 43 days of HCG diet and B12 shots for the rest of the year.

Nagging feelings. Nagging feelings.  You know when that voice in your head keeps saying “don’t don’t don’t“? Mine was screaming it to me.  So I did a little research and asked questions.  I found out that the “diet” that comes with the B12 and HCG shots is 500 calories a day.  I don’t know about you, but I know that eating 500 calories a day will promote weight loss because you are basically starving yourself.  It really doesn’t matter what kind of shot you are taking.  I also found out that if you are not deficient in B12, your body will just flush out the extra because it is water soluble.  That is right…you would be giving up money to get a shot for a vitamin that your body would not use (unless you had a deficiency) while eating 500 calories a day.

Hmm.

No bueno if you ask me.  500 calories is the equivalent of three cups of coffee with cream and sugar or a sausage, egg, and cheese mcmuffin (that is 480 calories…you have a WHOLE 20 calories left over to sustain you for the rest of the day…joy!).  If I did that I would be looking at Rexies’ “meeceswpid-20130420_192602.jpg that he brings in (he brought another in on Sunday) as a snack.  I would probably be on the floor circling him and growling.  I like to eat.  I need fuel.  I am one of those people that DOESN’T lose weight while sick because I never lose my appetite.  500 calories= NO for me.  I cancelled the appointment and found some B12 pills. Much cheaper and guess what…I have energy!

This is just my opinion…IF you feel that taking a B12 shot would benefit you then do it!  We are all different and the shots do give you added energy (especially if you are deficient).  The only thing I would say is go to a doctor and find out if you are lacking before shelling out $16.00 (or $10.00 for 12) a shot just to have your body flush out the excess.  The only thing getting lighter is your wallet.

As far as the way I am feeling lately…I cannot stress enough the importance of taking a multi vitamin formula daily (in my case menopausal 🙁 ).  My energy levels are up there, I feel a sense of well being, and…I now have the extra energy to do my workouts with some purpose.  I am adding my energy water tomorrow, I can’t wait to see the results.

Dr Oz’s Fat Flush Water and Fat Flush Water To Go!

Doesn’t that look JUST REFRESHING?? I live in Arizona and it is starting to get warmer here. Case in point it was 70 degrees at about 7 this morning. So..yeah…I need something to drink. Since I am broke most of the time I am happy that it is fairly affordable to do.

Simple…you make a pitcher of this.  The longer it sits the better it tastes.  I believe you are supposed to have this for 10 days (with meals as well) and it helps to detox your body and burn fat (added bonus)!  My Cousin and My Daddy both told me about it…it looks so pretty and refreshing I’m going to the store to get the ingredients..  Now…from what I understand you can eat the fruit in the water if you wish! That would be added fiber and calories. “I got SO FAT eating all those FRUITS and VEGETABLES!”, said NO ONE EVER!  🙂  My way of saying I really don’t care about the calories from eating a tangerine, a cucumber, a grapefruit, mint, and water. WHO would get fat off that?? May is upon us now and that means warmer weather and Robin’s 44th birthday is around the corner.  I at least want to be glowing with a little health by then!

The 10 Day RULES

Rule 1: Super Fat Flushing Water
Cleansing your system is one of the best ways to jump-start your body’s fat burning ability. To cleanse your system, try my special 5-ingredient Fat Flush Water. It’s simple to make, it tastes great and the science backs up its powerful benefits.

Besides the main ingredient water, the Fat Flush contains grapefruit that’s loaded with vitamin C to help your body turn fat into fuel. The tangerine increases your sensitivity to insulin, stabilizes blood sugar, and stimulates genes to burn fat. Cucumber helps you feel full and acts as a natural diuretic, which means less bloating and water retention. And lastly, it has mint leaves, which is not only refreshing but also promotes better digestion and stomach calm.

Make a big pitcher every morning. Drink at least one 8 ounce glass three times a day before each meal for 10 days straight.

Fat Flush Water
Ingredients for one large pitcher:

Water
1 grapefruit sliced (can substitute with lemon)
1 tangerine (can substitute with oranges)
1 large cucumber, sliced
10-20 mint leaves
Ice

Directions
Combine ingredients in a large pitcher and enjoy all day. Make a new pitcher daily.
Note-Save the citrus for breakfast the next day and munch on the cucumbers before bed instead of tossing!

Rule 2: Choose Colorful Carbs Over Brown and White
Don’t get me wrong, whole grains are incredibly healthy, this is only ten days! To jump-start your fat loss, eat your carbs from vegetables for 10 days. Colorful vegetables and verdant veggies, such as spinach, broccoli, green beans, kale, and zucchini are loaded with fiber, minerals and vitamins.

They are also very low on the glycemic index. Eating carbs that are low on the glycemic index can help stabilize blood sugar levels which helps prevents fat storage. Another bonus of filling up on veggies is they will keep your calorie intake low, allowing you to create a larger caloric deficit.

The options listed below mimic the grain dishes you crave most, such as rice, pasta and bread, so you stay full and satisfied longer.

Zucchini pasta: Using a vegetable peeler cut the zucchini into lengthwise ribbons. Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil or coconut oil pan, add zucchini ribbons and stir for 3 minutes until the zucchini turns translucent. Top with a healthy tomato sauce and enjoy. Another fun pasta substitute is spaghetti squash.

Lettuce or Nori (seaweed) wraps: Swap your sandwich bread for lettuce leaves or nori paper. Wrap around turkey slices, colorful cut-up veggies, salmon, etc.

Rule 3: Super Spice Your Protein
Mix up a delicious rub containing three super spices that also add great flavor to your favorite protein dishes. This tasty mixture combines chili powder with capsaicin, the substance that gives chili peppers their spicy kick. The turmeric contains curcumin, and mustard seed. Using spices is a great way to flavor your food with out adding calories. Feel free to add as many spices as you like to this mix, but use these three power house spices as often as possible.

Spice Rub
Ingredients:
Chili powder
Turmeric
Mustard Seeds

Directions:
Mix up 2 tablespoons worth (equal parts of each spice) and rub all over lean protein, such as fish, chicken, tofu or bison. This spice rub will add lots of flavor and set your metabolism on fire. Enjoy for 10 days.

Rule 4: Snack Skinny
Snack yourself skinny with my three favorite recipes: cauliflower popcorn, kale chips, and roasted garbanzo beans. These skinny snacks will kick the munchies while giving you a nutritional boost without extra calories! Snacking is an important part of losing fat. The secret is to “snack skinny” and skip the processed “Franken foods!”

Cauliflower Popcorn
This tasty nosh is actually roasted cauliflower fashioned into “popcorn” bites. Cauliflower supports your liver’s cleansing abilities to help you metabolize fat. This snack also contains nutritional yeast, which is a complete protein and high in B-complex vitamins. Eat twice a day to satisfy midmorning and late afternoon cravings.

Ingredients:
2 heads of cauliflower
1 tbsp olive oil
Nutritional yeast, hemp seeds, or other spices to taste

Directions
Cut up cauliflower into popcorn-size florets. Mix with some pepper, olive oil and sea salt or sprinkle with nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor or hemp seeds for a boost of protein. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 420 °F.

Kale chips (follow exact same instructions to make roasted garbanzo beans)

Lightly coat kale chips with sesame seed oil and sprinkle with season salt. Massage oil into the kale leaves with clean hands. Spread a single layer on a cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees for about an hour or until crisp.

Make the Recipe in Water Bottles…….Place In the Refrigerato…r and Just Take 2 or 3 Out to take with you, if you know you won’t be home for long periods of time!!!

The longer it sits, the better it tastes. You can eat them as well but they are intended as flavoring and still work, so that is a personal choice. The Vitamin C turns fat into fuel, the tangerine increases your sensitivity to insulin, and the cucumber makes you feel full. Try it for 10 days and see what you think!

Ingredients per 8 oz serving

Water
1 slice grapefruit
1 tangerine
½ cucumber, sliced
2 peppermint leaves
Ice – as much as you like

Directions
Wash grapefruit, tangerine cucumber and peppermint leaves. Slice cucumber, grapefruit and tangerine (or peel). Combine all ingredients (fruits, vegetables, 8 oz water) into water bottles.

Close Cap Tightly, Shake, Put In The Fridge Over Night, Take Out a Few Bottles for the Next Day & Enjoy!

So there you go! Some really tasty looking water that is….drumroll please…PALEO FRIENDLY from what I can see!! Yay!  I can still do the Hunter/Gatherer lifestyle until July (hardcore…I wanna celebrate with a Mexican Cruise 🙂 that means in a swimsuit)

Now…does anyone know if we can purchase empty water bottles like the ones above.  I have a kick ass water filter so I don’t spend money on bottled water anymore. 🙂

Louisiana Pecan Pralines

Yes.  I know this isn’t Paleo..diet anything.  But I have been wanting a authentic praline since I have visited My hometown New Orleans.

1 cup cane sugar
1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
2 /3 cup evaporated milk
4 TBS unsalted butter (frozen)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
4 OZ Chopped pecans

Add sugars and milk to medium pot stir to dissolve sugar.

Over medium heat bring to 240 (soft ball) stirring occasionally.

Once to 240 (soft ball) add butter…do not stir…wait a minute then add vanilla and pecans.

Stir with wooden spoon until candy starts to thicken.

Place spoonfuls onto parchment paper…let set for about 30 minute to an hour.

Enjoy. No refrigeration needed. Airtight container or sandwich bags…if they make it that long

Migraine! Portaits of Pain (B/W selfies)

I’m serious.

My world lacks color when these hit! Where is my IMITREX (or Generic version that my insurance covers)?  Just like my daughter I like to take pictures and since I haven’t taken any black and white ones in a while I figured why not?? I have a flipping headache anyway!

image The nap at lunch time didn’t help any.  I hate when these happen. I believe that I am having what Atkins calls the Induction Flu. Gah!  I will NEVER get used to feeling nauseous and headachy.

What will remedy this?? CARBS…I could really go for some Thunderbolt Fried Chicken…or some groovy drugs washed down by a Vodka and Cranberry.

image Rexie and his “Meeces”.  I have to admit it is quite nice to not have mice (live ones) or any other critter residing in the house.  He is proving to be a great Mouser and Critter Catcher.  If I ever end up living in a barn Rex is my man!

I like BIG BUTTS…um…maybe not!

WHY would ANYONE want their behind to be compared to that of a donkey‘s?? Just not attractive to me…and looks off (for lack of a better word). Most women try to reduce the size of their butts…not the lady below. Thousands of injections and infections to make herself look…deformed (my opinion).  A natural behind (one you just have) looks much better (even big)

1,000s of injections?? Just to make your ass look like you can set a plate on it? A shelf?  I mean you have a 23 inch waist, thin legs and suddenly to have 60 inch hips/ass…it looks like a deformity…weird!  If I hear:

  • superglue
  • cement
  • auto grade silicon
  • infected/lumpy
  • donkey butt (I’m sorry having my ass compared to a donkey’s just isn’t attractive)
  • DEATH

A big ass isn’t worth death to me.  If I want a big ass I will just EAT my way to one not add silicon to it. Less expensive.

Now…off to improve what the Lord bestowed me with by doing squats.  I may not have a video girl booty…I have a Rob-Booty and I can assure you there is someone out there that thinks it looks just fine!

REALLY VERY NICE…looks like a postcard. 🙂  This is where cruise ships make port for the Alaskan cruises.  So…you see why I am on the wire with this…IT WOULD TOTALLY ROCK to live there!

I had the pleasure (displeasure) of living in Germany for three years.  Do you know I saw NOTHING of Europe while I was there? Oh…I saw Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Kaiserslautern, Germany. Nothing else.  That is sad considering EVERYTHING can be seen by train in Europe.

Landlocked? Yes. But so postcard pretty!

Alaska…Again??

Well.

It seems they REALLY want me in Alaska.

I mean really want me enough that they are NOW willing to negotiate report dates and such..

They are willing to:

  • wait until the end of my lease (so I don’t have to break it)
  • Report date in AUGUST instead of MAY
  • work with me to get some incentives going

Just when I thought Alaska was a moot point…CG Alaska is ringing my phone.

This is a sign.  I don’t ignore them.  I always try to make the best out of everything that is presented before me.  I still want to make the move to Alaska…and now it seems they (Alaska) want me as well.

Let the negotiations begin…AGAIN!

Cajun Chicken…with spinach and pepperjack cheese…

ANYTHING stuffed with cheese has got to be delish!!  I am still following my eating plan so that means I will be looking for ways to make Paleo not boring.  This definitely does not look boring.  I will be cooking this tonight and hopefully will have a great paicture to take of it.  I will have the chicken on top of some steamed carrots, broccoli, and cauliflowers.  Remember…you diet has a lot to do with weight loss.  Adding in exercise just makes it happen faster!

cajun chicken with pepperjack

Cajun Chicken with Pepper JackPreparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts
4 oz pepper jack cheese, shredded (you can use up to 6 oz)
1 c frozen spinach, thawed and drained (you can also use fresh cooked spinach)
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp GF Cajun seasoning
Sea salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Lots of toothpicks

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Flatten the chicken to 1/4-inch thickness.

In a medium bowl, combine the pepper jack cheese, spinach, salt and pepper.

Spoon about 1/4 c of the spinach mixture onto each chicken breast. Roll each chicken breast tightly and fasten the seams with several toothpicks. I typically use about 8 toothpicks in each roll to ensure none of the filling seeps out. Be sure to count how many total toothpicks were used.

Brush each chicken breast with the olive oil. Sprinkle the Cajun seasoning evenly over all. Sprinkle any remaining spinach and cheese on top of chicken (optional).

Place the chicken seam-side down onto a tin foil-lined baking sheet (for easy cleanup). Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.

Remove the toothpicks before serving. Count to make sure you have removed every last toothpick.
