Gates: Army tours extended by three months

POSTED: 7:57 p.m. EDT, April 11, 2007

Now…THIS sucks on so many levels!!  My kids need their Father…seriously.  I am big girl and can handle the extension.  Sigh…I feel for all the Military families that this effects.  My heart goes out to them all.
The one thing that I keep repeating is this is my husband’s job.  I knew this could happen when he signed up for the Army.  I don’t like it…but I have to accept it.  I stilll love all the Troops (that includes my Soldier) and will support what they are doing until I die.  I feel for the young wives and young children.  Luckily for me I have teenagers and I can explain things a little better.  I am going to a meeting today to see if everything is set in stone…which I am sure it is.  I am not happy but I cannot complain…the Reservists and their families have already gone through the same thing…if I recall in the beginning if all of this they were seperated from their families for up to 18 months.
Sigh…My stomach hurts.  This so SUCKS…I really cannot be eloquent about my feelings right now.  Right now the only thing I can do is wait…go to the meetings and see what the Powers that Be have to tell us…

I am so sorry Robin. Seriously, this isn’t fair to anyone.
And can someone again explain why it’s the Army that’s getting slammed with this and not the Marines, Air Force or Navy. From what I understand (correct me if I’m wrong) they are holding tight with their 5-7 month rotations.

  2. Hey, Robin — We have already asked SO MUCH of
our men and women in uniform as well as their
families…it doesn’t seem fair that we ask for even
    more of a sacrifice.
My thanks to your husband for all that he does for us, as well as my thanks to you and your kids for the sacrifice that you are making as well.

Rebecca…you are correct…the other branches are keeping their time the same…but some of them have been extended. I read that the Marines have 5-7 month deployments…but they are right back in the shit 7 months later. Apparently this extension is to make sure that the Army has a full 12 months between the 15-18 months of being gone.
Brian…thanks so much for that…and your thanks. It feels better hearing it from a everyday person and not someone whose job is to find ways to make the war continue on…I really really appreciate that…

Ok…. fine, some are back in 6 months. But they are getting their full 1:1 dwell time. I love how Gates is pulling this bull that he’s all “Hey… if you go 15 months we can promise you a year dwell time!”.
Um. Hello asshat. Do you not realize that we were “promised” a year already? Dwell time between deployments is supposed to be 1 month home for every month in the box.

  5. Robin says:

Yep…so in essence…we are still getting fucked over. I am so beyond pissed off right now…my children are in dire need of their father back into their lives. This bullshit will still equal to about a total of 6 months…if that…quality time with the families before they have to start up with the “preparing” to get deployed again bullshit. That doesn’t take into account the field, the range, and whatever else they can throw at them…I am still wondering who in the hell they are polling to get all that high morale stats from the troops…
